"Google Keep" me organized

I have used Google Keep since its release. I am more than a bit linear, so this checklist tool is perfect. I have taken this tool for granted and thinking others are using it as much as I am. While having casual conversation with a couple of teachers I add a couple tasks to my school Google Keep. Both teachers look bright eyed, asking "What is that?". Neither teacher had seen or heard of Google Keep and now want to add it to their tech toolbox.

Then we have WIN time for students, as many districts are going to. My first 6th grade course offering was Google Keep. It was like I released the iPhone nearly ten years ago, as most of my students were amazed. OK, maybe not quite that big, but they left with a checklist tech tool they could relate to their elementary school checkoff processes.
Here is what I use and see students using with their Google Keep tool in school.
  • Shared List 1 - I encourage students and staff to keep their professional / private digital lives separated when possible. However, I share many school lists with my personal Google account so I can manage them outside of school hours. Still keeping the two world separate beyond my to-do lists.
  • Shared List 2 - I observed more and more students sharing their list for cooperative project work. They shared tasks, resources and deadlines with ease. Then when the project was completed, they delete the list and/or remove people from the it.
  • Reminders - There are the obvious reminders of time and date. In addition, I use the location reminder and it is slick. I started with our family Costco reminder, setting that location as a trigger to notify me when I'm there. It worked so well I did the same with my classroom school list when I arrive each morning. Some students set their home location as a trigger, to remind them to do their homework after school.
  • Archive - There are notes I create that go with a unit time specific during the school year. An example is starting the school year notes, which are very important and done within a couple weeks. I archive, then modify for the next time I need them.
  • Cross Platform - This tool goes from laptop to smartphone to tablet with ease. It doesn't matter if you use Windows, iOs, Android or Chrome OS, Google Keep links and syncs perfectly.
When creating notes or lists, this is one of my daily drivers. I use it in and out of school with ease. In addition, I see more and more students finding the power of Google Keep. Especially in the transition from elementary to middle school. There are many effective functions to Google Keep.
