I have used chrome extensions for years and sometimes assume that everyone uses them. During this school year, while helping teachers and friends with tech question I am frequently stopped "What did you just click on?". Followed by, "that's cool" and "how do I get it". So here I go with my "Daily Extension Regular Drivers" that make my chrome time more efficient.
  • Gmail Checker - Its simple and still my email go to. Mostly for when I'm looking for an email. This is one area I want to manage my time better.
  • goo.gl URL Shortener - There are many great url shortener and this is my favorite. The extension does the same as other shorteners as well as creating a QR Code if needed. I like the "Copy" click to move the new link to my clipboard.
  • Google Hangouts - I love Google Hangout and use often. Many of my trusted PLN member are online and available for my tech questions that arise. We have all been there, when a new tech lesson has a hiccup and need a little guidance.  So many features from simple chat, to video hangout or even sms. Finally, all messages can be archived for later use.
  • Screencastify - This extension keeps getting better and better. I use it to create flip classroom video lesson and sub plans. It is fast and easy, linking to YouTube or download to my devices. I can add video or simply audio to direct my readers.
  • SpeakIt! - Our science curriculum is pretty content heavy for my 6th graders. This extension help level the playing field, meeting all student literacy levels where they are at with this text-to-speech tool. I highlight text from our online book and let SpeakIt! read that paragraph, page or whatever I need to the class. Everyone gets the content as needed.
  • TweetDeck Launcher -  Connect to Twitter fast and easy, so I can share or harvest the relevant information I need from my PLN quickly.
  • Chrome Cast - I have a Chrome Cast connect to my projector for casting screen while keeping other tabs private.
  • Add to Google Classroom - I just stumbled onto this extension from a student. The teacher version extension is really slick for posting a new assignment or announcement.
  • Google Translate - As our classroom are becoming more and more diverse, this has been a life saver, bridging communication gaps with ESL or ELL students. The extension is great and keeps getting better.
  • Tab Scissors & Tab Glue - These two extension are great, working together. Tab Scissors cut/splits the browser into two parts ... left / right, for multi-tab work. Then when finished, use Tab Glue to return to one browser setting.
  • uBlock Origin - Blocks unwanted ads, that is easy on my machines memory and cpu footprint. I have noticed my laptop is less sluggish after extended time of use.
  • TinyURL - This is my secondary url shortener for a backup and when goo.gl URL Shortener isn't user friendly.
  • Calculator - There are many extension calculators for sure. I like this scientific calculator that meets all of my math needs, when I need it.
  • G.lux - Being an empty nester, I sometimes work on my device up to bedtime. I have read how this stimulates my brain, making it more difficult to get a restful sleep. Whether just in my head or not, I have noticed shutting down and sleeping better.
My extensions change from time to time. These are my daily drivers today. Extensions save time and make my chrome experience more productive. I would love to hear what your favorite extensions are. Remember to Share the Learning.
